Josephus Lake Campground Idaho

Josephus Lake Campsite
My Campsite at Josephus Lake

Josephus Lake is located in Challis National Forest about 20 miles north of highway 21 and probably 40-50 miles northwest of Stanley, Idaho. The road from highway 21 is not paved. The first 10+ miles are a well graded gravel road suitable for travel trailers. The second half of the route becomes more narrow and rocky. If driven carefully most any stock SUV can make it up there without a problem.  Take a look at the Gaia GPS data below for a closer look at the route to the lake. The campground has around 10 sites. A couple right on the main lake and a few closer to a secondary lower lake. Some other sites are further up in the forest and are pretty large, suitable for groups. Take a look at the Gaia GPS data below for a closer look at the route to the lake.

A trailhead to Soldier Lakes and beyond is located here as well. There is a small parking booth and a registration box for hikers. I did a day hike to the Soldier Lakes which you can learn more about here…
